ARREST, URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Activist arrested on protest outside David Cameron speaking engagement

*UPDATED 11pm

The activist has now been released from Etal Lane police station, where he was greeted by members of the HSBC 3 Defence Campaign and Newcastle University Occupation, who protested in solidarity outside. He will be making a statement on his arrest shortly.

A young activist has just been arrested during a demonstration outside a speaking engagement by David Cameron at the Centre for Life. Over a hundred people had quickly mobilised outside the building demanding an end to the cuts after word spread that Cameron was in town. The arrest happened as David Cameron’s convoy left the building. Demonstrators then marched to Newcastle Central Police Station to demand his immediate release. The arrestee was then transferred to Etal Lane Police Station in the outer west of Newcastle. Please come down to the police station to show your solidarity if you are able, or phone 01912146555 and ask to speak to the Custody Sergeant at Etal Lane Police Station, ask after the arrested demonstrator’s health, ask what they are being charged with and demand their immediate release.
