Today six ‘anarchists’ were arrested to prevent them from demonstrating on the day of the royal wedding. The six were given strict bail conditions which forbids them from entering Central London on Friday, as the police have apparent intelligence that they are planning to ‘disrupt’ the event. This brings the total number banned from the centre to 68. This tactic of pre-emptive arrests has become increasingly common, as we saw with the arrests in Glasgow leading up to a major demonstration against political policing. The bail conditions imposed in Glasgow specifically banned those arrested from attending demonstrations and entering areas of the city in which they usually take place.
The increasingly repressive behaviour of the police in the face of rising resistance against the cuts must be condemned and opposed. This tactic can only be seen as a further attack on our democratic rights. We must defend all those criminalised by the police for fighting back against the cuts.
End political policing!
